This isa wonderful opportunity for skilled under utilized lawyers operating in saturated small markets to get crosborder and even overseas legal work!.

This is the best thing to happen to our traditionally conservative profession. Ofcourse ethics and professionalism should be guaranteed at all levels.

I look forward to build alliances and operate under LPO arrangements.

I just want to say that all that Stephanie Lewis says about herself is being minimized. Stephanie is being modest and I truley understand why...she wears her heart on her sleeve. Ms. Lewis is much more than she discribed herself. To me Stephanie is more than and lawyer/advocate. She is my hero. When noone else believed in me she was there. When my enemy attacked , she was there. When I gave up on myself, she was there. When I saw only the bleak, she restored my faith. Stephanie was more than a lawyer/advocate, she was a friend. Thank you Stephanie!

former resident of Crisis Ministries and client of Ms. Lewis

from an african,in particular ugandan view, lpo z quite the opportunity for young lawyers fresh out of the ldc, an institution that awards post graduate diplomas in legal practice, for the social economic conditions r that junior counsel arenot paid well, usually barely enough to keep one going up the complex legal ladder in a rather gruelling process, one bound to take a good number of years in the youth of a proffessional legal career,it should be harnessed and undergrad initiations at premier law schools like makerere stepped up,for it is an opportunity to tap into a global 250 million usd industry and to harness trans jurisdiction legal training as offshore legal firms cut runaway legal costs, its a win win situation.

While I agree with most of your article, as an Accredited Professional Divorce Mediator in NJ myself, I have an MBA in Finance and was never a practicing attorney although I do have extensive legal experience. It's really a matter of if your mediator is experienced and is Accredited - that is the key. Anyone can claim to be a mediator but there are less than 100 Accredited Professional Mediator in NJ so you really have to be careful.

As your article points out, financial matters tend to be the main drivers during divorce as three of the four areas covered are financially related: equitable distribution, child support and alimony so you are correct in stating that having financial knowledge is extremely important and to be honest, something I find many attorneys lack. Certainly there are some good attorney mediators out there but being a mediator is an entirely different skill set than being an attorney an having an MBA in Finance has served my clients greatly.

Nothing (well, almost nothing) is harder than the decision outsource. What I find most firms asking now is "what should my LPO strategy be?" Amongst the possible answers is certainly "Our strategy is to keep the work in-house", and even this is very credible if it is a strategy and not a head-in-the-sand ignoring of the issue.

Stage 1 of what we do with clients is answer the question "LPO - Yes or No?" And, if the answer is "yes" does that mean onshore, offshore, delivered from a Captive, delivered by a third party, or a combination of all four. It is quite a tough analytical process to through but it an investment that pays dividends.

Great article.
I noticed you are only addressing the use of PowerPoint for live speech presentations. What are your thoughts in the use of PowerPoint as a document that presents ideas and concepts without having a person facilitating the presentation?

Thanks
