		<description>We work in a market economy. Some professions, such as legal services providers, have traditionally been more protected from the market than others. As technology and productivity have advanced, it has become easier to separate the components of the services that legal professionals provide, resulting in each service component being subject to its own set of market forces. This is simply the creative destruction that is inherent in capitalism creating a new way to operate that, while making the economy more efficient, also destroys some part of it.

As a lawyer I understand the concerns about how LPO will impact the legal profession, but trying to fortify the legal industry from our market economy does not serve the needs of clients and ultimately protectionism will not work. The author’s suggestions to “be nimble” and “serve your clients well” are useful advice to help lawyers continue to create value for clients.

		<description>&quot;In the American legal market, they came first for the paralegals, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a paralegal;

    And then they came for the contract attorneys, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a contract attorney;

    And then they came for the associates, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t an associate;

    And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up.&quot;
